Nerve Tumours UK National NF Helpline
Ensuring that each, and every, patient has direct access to the correct care path and subsequent support services.
Nerve Tumours UK, funds a unique Specialist Support Network to help the 26,500 plus children & adults, living in the UK, who are diagnosed with NF, the group name for a set of neuro-genetic conditions that cause tumours to grow on nerve endings: Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), NF2-related-Schwannomatosis (NF2), and Schwannomatosis (SWN), along with their carers, families, and wider support network, including the many associated medical professionals, who support those with the condition. The national helpline is staffed by Band 7 Specialist NF Nurses. Contact is made via telephone, email, and messaging.
The helpline cannot diagnose or treat patients, it advises patients, or their GP, on how to make appropriate referrals. They can intervene with a GP, ensuring the correct pathway to/from genetic testing is valid and referrals are made. They can liaise and work with other healthcare professionals, e.g. physiotherapists, occupational therapists and mental health services.
