Responding to Suicidal Callers
How to respond to service users who present with suicidal thoughts or plans is a common concern for many services. It is essential that your service is equipped to identify those at risk and that your team know how best to support them. This invaluable course explores how to identify risk, practice different techniques in managing suicidal callers and set up internal processes, policies and supervision. Attending this course will leave you with greater knowledge, confidence and awareness alongside practical skills and actions to take back to your organisation.

Learning objectives
Explore context, statistics and attitudes to suicide including barriers to communication
Recognise who is at risk from suicide and potential signs
Examine current suicide models and pathway
Introduce basic skills and suicide response pathway and techniques in responding
To practice conversations on voice/chat channels that recognises invitations to talk about suicide
To develop/implement policies relating to callers at risk of suicide

The full day course has Quality Checked training recognition with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
This course alone is not a route to the Accredited Register, nor does it equip a participant to refer to themselves as a qualified counsellor or as a ‘specialist’ in this area of work unless they have obtained relevant qualifications and experience to do so.
